After much consideration, we bought and installed the FIRST PLG-42 in the US. We have completely customized this machine to suit our needs with spindle thru coolant in order to flush out as many chips as we can!

What were the differences between 2012 IMTS and 2014
- 3D printing had a bigger presence at the show this year. A 3D printed car sparked attention from not only the manufacturing sector but from the general public and media sources as well. http://www.imts.com/show/newsletter/insider/article.cfm?aid=1151 - I was not able to attend this years show, but another team member was able to step in my place and he said it was eye opening. This is truly an amazing show that inspires people in the field and is mystifying to those not in the manufacturing industry. Stay tuned for the General Manager's favorite pick!!!!! Can you believe we are finished with the first month of 2014. Denver Precision sold more parts in 2013 than in 2012 and 2014 is starting off strong. Maybe manufacturing in the US is increasing? Only time can tell. We thank all of our customers, suppliers, and employees; we look forward to the demand of 2014. This has been an interesting week with the general manager packing to leave for EMO- Hanover, Germany (an international machine trade show), and record rainfall. We are thinking of everyone in Colorado as we all try to dry out.
http://www.weather.com/news/weather-severe/flash-flood-swamps-boulder-northern-colorado-20130912 We all would like to grow our business with reliable customers. Recently we have received an RFQ from overseas and we have to weigh the pros and cons of earning more business but filling out paperwork for export. Expanding our reach, but relying on email and off- hour conversations, not to mention the language barrier. We are looking into how this process will help our customers and grow our business. So far I have found this blog: http://www.chinalawblog.com/2012/05/selling-your-product-into-china-what-you-need-to-know.html Check out this website, watch the videos and contemplate how things have changed in the manufacturing world. Where do you think the screw machine business will be in the future?
http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/143552-3d-printing-with-metal-the-final-frontier-of-additive-manufacturing "Nearly half the U.S. workforce by this time next year will consist of Millennials- those aged 18-35- so employers need to understand how to work with and retain this age demographic as employees." - From the article: Millennials, Gen Y Gen X- Can't We All Get Along? http://www.tirebusiness.com/article/20121130/NEWS/121139990/millennials-gen-y-gen-x-cant-we-all-get-along This is an interesting article about the different types of generations and how they work together. It may be a little one sided as far as employers catering to their employees, but it gives a perspective that people of different generations have different needs and the employer needs to identify how to best accommodate their work force.
At Denver Precision Products there is always something to organize! This is a picture of how we organize one set of our collets. Finding the right size cabinet that is not too deep or too tall is always a challenge. 1. Plan out how to organize tools then create an easy system for others to use. 2. Find the appropriate way to hold and display the tools by determining the space and size of holders needed. 3. Inventory the tools and keep a database of your tools incase something is not put back in the right place. Post your comments/ideas of how you organize. http://www.manufacturersnews.com/news/charts/Top50CitiesJobsJan2013.pdf
A recent report by MNI ranks Denver as one of the top 50 cities in industrial jobs! Driving around the Denver area on errands for plating, heat treating, tools, or other random adventures a driver goes on for a machine shop, I noticed how many lively business there are in all these industrial parks. There are even new ones being constructed! So I look as being ranked 33rd is a good thing and I am hopeful for this new year. |
